Jon Stewart Addresses Louis C.K. Sexual Misconduct

Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart addresses the recent sexual misconduct allegations against his longtime friend and fellow comedian Louis C.K. Stewart – along with other close friends of C.K. in the world of comedy, such as his former late night boss Conan O’Brien – has found himself taking some heat as of late, with many wondering how so many comedy heavyweights could know C.K. so well, but not be aware of his inappropriate behavior with colleagues.

Stewart has been friends with C.K. for many years, with both first getting into comedy in the 80s. C.K. also worked at one time with another close Stewart pal, Stephen Colbert. C.K. was a frequent guest on The Daily Show during Stewart’s long tenure as host of the program, with the friendly rapport between the two making it quite obvious there was a real life friendship in play.

This morning, Stewart appeared as a guest on NBC’s Today Show. While he was there to promote this weekend’s Night of Too Many Stars charity event on HBO – which originally counted C.K. among its booked guests – Stewart was unsurprisingly asked about his friend’s sexual misdeeds, which C.K. admitted had really happened in a statement last week. Here’s what Stewart had to say:

“You give your friends the benefit of the doubt. I try to think of it in terms of, I’ve had friends who have compulsions and have done things — gambling, drinking, or drugs. And we lost some of them. Some of them have died. And you find yourself at a moment of, ‘Did I miss something? Could I have done more?’ In this situation, we all could have. So you feel anger at what he did to people.”

To his credit, Stewart doesn’t seem to be letting C.K. off the hook for his behavior. At the same time, one doesn’t necessarily expect him to just verbally toss his friend under the bus, so it’s not too surprising to see Stewart stop a bit short of outright condemning him as some have. This would be an awkward position for anyone to be in, much less someone with worldwide fame and constant public scrutiny of everything he says.

Stewart also addressed a recently recirculated video of his response to a question posed during a podcast appearance in 2016, in which a student asked Stewart about the then-rumored accusations of sexual misconduct against C.K.. Stewart at first appeared stunned, then proceeded to seemingly laugh off the question, although he got a bit more serious near the end. Stewart said this about his odd response to the query: “What?’ And then, joke, joke, and as [the student] kept going, I was like, ‘Look, I know this is very serious, but I know Louis, he’s always been a gentleman to me,’ which, again, speaks to the blindness that I think a man has.” When asked by host Matt Lauer, Stewart revealed that he has yet to speak to C.K. since the accusations against him resurfaced.

The Last Jedi IMAX Poster is Covered in Red

A new IMAX poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi features the main characters from both sides of the force, with red as backdrop. Fans of the Star Wars saga have officially begun the countdown to The Last Jedi, with some already purchasing their tickets for opening night, as they went on presale the same day the last theatrical trailer was released.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the second installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and eighth in the saga, picks up moments after The Force Awakens, when Rey arrives to Ahch-To and comes face to face with Luke Skywalker himself. Just like its predecessor, The Last Jedi will be shown in IMAX, fully displaying the breath-taking scenarios of planets like Ahch-To and the galaxy far, far away. As the release date approaches, Disney and Lucasfilm release more promotional items – from posters to figurines – the latest of these being a new IMAX poster.

The official Star Wars Twitter account revealed a new poster for The Last Jedi IMAX experience with the caption “Fulfill your destiny” and a link to purchase tickets. The poster features both old and new characters, with Luke Skywalker, General Organa, Kylo Ren, and Rey as the main focus. Accompanying these characters are Poe Dameron, Finn, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, BB-8, and newcomer Rose Rico on Luke’s side, with Captain Phasma next to Kylo Ren. This poster follows the red theme seen in previous posters – including individual ones – with red paint over a light gray background and Rey as the only character wearing a red cloak. Sadly for some, no Porgs are included in this poster.

The style of this poster is similar to those previously released, and while it doesn’t give any clues about the film’s plot, fans have already started to speculate over Rey’s use of a red cloak; being the only image – aside from her character poster – of her wearing this piece of clothing.

Last month, a special IMAX poster was released, showing Luke Skywalker watching Rey training from a distance. This poster by artist Dan Mumford is part of a promotion at IMAX/AMC locations where fans will get an exclusive print over the early course of the film’s theatrical run, starting on December 17.

In typical Star Wars fashion, there won’t be any plot details revealed ahead of the release of the film. What we do know is that The Last Jedi will see Luke Skywalker training Rey, though things will not go as Rey hopes, as Luke believes it’s time for the Jedi to end. Meanwhile, on the other side of the galaxy, General Organa regroups with Poe Dameron and Finn, while Supreme Leader Snoke looks to complete Kylo’s training.

While we wait for the big day, fans will surely kill time by analysing this new poster and those to come (if any), looking for hidden clues about Rey’s journey and Kylo’s plans – now that the First Order is not exactly going through its best time.

Key and Pugliese have kept their relationship private, attending various red carpets together over the years. They were last spotted together at the 2017 IRC Rescue Dinner in New York on Nov. 2.

Key was previously married to Hollywood dialect coach Cynthia Blaise for 17 years. They tied the knot in 1998 before Key filed for divorce in 2015.

ET‘s Deidra Behar spoke with Key earlier this year where he gushed about Pugliese.

“She produces everything. She produces my life and my career! It’s amazing,” he expressed.

While the two are business partners, the actor shared that they find time to leave shop talk aside and just enjoy each other’s company.

“We find time to take definitive moments that are personal to us that have nothing to do with work. But we enjoy work so much,” Key added. “And I love her and she loves me. So I work, I love our job and we both enjoy it so much.”

Congrats to the happy couple!

Why You Should Check Out The New Firefox Quantum Browser

Why You Should Check Out The New Firefox Quantum Browser

Firefox was fading a bit with Chrome taking all the attention the last few years. But Chrome itself has been struggling with bloat especially with tons of 3rd party extensions and lots of tabs open. Now Firefox is hitting back hard with a really refreshing update featuring:
* like built-in screenshot functionality with quick sharing
* improved tracker blocking
* a library button that gives access to your saved content like bookmarks with Pocket built-in
* built-in support for WASM and WebVR for next-gen gaming
* supposedly 30% less memory than Chrome browser

Mozilla claims its updated web browser is twice as fast as its last one, and uses a lot less memory than the competition — Google Chrome in particular. It’s called Firefox Quantum, and it might give the web’s most popular web browser a run for its money.

Williams Reimagines EV Architecture With FW-EXV

Everyone has heard of Williams F1, the eponymous Formula 1 team founded by Sir Frank Williams in 1977. Though Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull have dominated in recent years, Williams remains the second most successful team in grand prix racing, having won a total of nine F1 Constructor’s Championships over the past 40 years. Now Williams is turning its race-tuned capacity for innovative thinking and rapid development to engineering solutions that benefit consumers.

Williams Advanced Engineering was founded in 2010 as a means of leveraging Williams’ F1 technical expertise to help Jaguar Land Rover create the 900 hp hybrid-powered Jaguar C-X75 hypercar. When JLR canceled plans for a production version of the C-X75, Williams Advanced Engineering turned its attention to a diverse range of projects, including an electric-powered version of Britain’s iconic Brompton folding bicycle, a lightweight, ultra-strong, portable intensive crib for babies, and the forthcoming all-electric version of the Aston Martin Rapide.

The FW-EXV is Williams Advanced Engineering’s take on a lightweight, flexible, and scalable battery electric vehicle platform. In terms of format—a central under-floor battery pack with the ability to package e-motors at either end—FW-EXV breaks no new ground. What makes it interesting is its carbon-fiber intensive construction, and innovative approach to battery cooling and packaging.

The suspension of the FW-EXV features ultra-light carbon-fiber control arms that can be laid-up and stamped into shape in about five minutes. The stamping process itself taking just 90 seconds. Carbon-fiber control arms are not unique, but the Williams approach is said to dramatically reduce cost.

The battery modules are enclosed in Williams-designed carbon-fiber structural exoskeletons that, when butted together, can absorb side impact loads. This, says Williams Advanced Engineering technical director Paul McNamara, means the platform’s sills can be made lighter.

“What people have tended to do so far is make the sill strong and stiff, and then just put all the battery cells in the middle,” McNamara says. “What we’re saying is don’t make the sill quite as strong, allow some of the load to come into the cells, and allow each module to take some of the stress. And by bolting all those modules down, we get a lot of torsional and bending stiffness through the platform. We’re not having to handle all the stiffness through the sill.”

This strategy also allows the FW-EXV to cleverly use the platform sills as cooling elements for the battery pack. Air enters two narrow tubes at the front of the vehicle and is channeled through the sills, the inside of which are filled with cooling fins, exiting at a low pressure area under the floor at the rear of the platform that helps draw the air through the system. The system is augmented by a refrigerated cold plate underneath the batteries that helps keep them under 40 degrees Celsius.

The benefit of the system, says McNamara, is it eliminates the need for conventional cooling radiators at the front of the car, and the need to pipe coolant around the battery pack, therefore reducing weight and complexity, and improving the vehicle’s drag co-efficient.

As displayed, the FW-EXV platform could underpin a sedan the size of a BMW 3 Series. McNamara says Williams Advanced Engineering has also designed a version for a sporty, low-slung coupé that features reduce height battery modules to get the seats lower, with additional batteries located in a tunnel running down the center of the platform to increase range and performance.

Williams Advanced Engineering managing director Craig Wilson freely admits most mainstream automakers have viable BEV platforms of their own already under development. He says the FW-EXV, which uses off-the-shelf e-motors and electronic control systems, is designed for use by low-volume performance vehicle manufacturers.
